Religion at Olivet School

At Olivet School, faith is woven naturally into everyday learning. Our Bible-based religion program helps students develop a strong moral foundation while encouraging them to become kind, compassionate, and thoughtful individuals.

At the heart of our religious education is a simple but powerful message: love the Lord, love your neighbour, and treat others as you would like to be treated. Through Bible stories, discussion, worship, and reflection, students learn how the Lord can guide their everyday choices and help them become the best versions of themselves.

Weekly Worship

Every Monday morning, the entire school gathers for worship led by our school minister, Rev. Todd Beiswenger. Each service is centered around the Bible verse students are memorizing that week and includes a Bible story that brings the verse to life.

Rev. Beiswenger’s messages are thoughtfully designed to engage students of every age. Through interactive storytelling, visual demonstrations, music, and discussion, worship becomes an experience filled with learning, laughter, and joy. It is a wonderful way for our school community to begin each week together.

Daily Classroom Worship

Faith continues throughout the week with daily classroom worship led by each teacher. Using the New Church religion curriculum, students explore Bible stories through age-appropriate discussions and activities that reinforce the lessons learned.

During Christmas and Easter, chapel and classroom, worship focuses on the biblical stories surrounding these special celebrations before returning to the regular curriculum.

Scripture Studies

Starting in Grade 3 the students have weekly Scripture Studies with Rev. Beiswenger. They begin to explore the Bible in greater depth twice a week.

Grade 3 Scripture Curriculum – The Lord is Our Hero

Students journey through the exciting stories of Joshua and the Judges as the Children of Israel enter the Promised Land. Alongside these dramatic accounts, students discover how many of the Israelites’ struggles stemmed from their own choices and their failure to follow the Lord’s teachings.

These lessons encourage meaningful classroom discussion as students recognize patterns of decision-making, consequences, forgiveness, and redemption. They discover that, even when God’s people lose their way, the Lord remains faithful and is always ready to guide them back.

Grades 4 & 5 Scripture Curriculum – The Lord is Our King

In Grades 4 and 5, students continue their study of the Old Testament by exploring the lives of Saul, David, and Solomon.

These stories examine the transition from judges to kings while introducing important themes such as leadership, responsibility, courage, humility, and faithfulness. Students learn what makes a good leader and how following the Lord provides wisdom and lasting blessings.

Growing in Faith and Character

At Olivet School, religion is not simply another subject—it is part of who we are. The lessons students learn in worship and Scripture Studies are reflected throughout the school day as they practice kindness, honesty, responsibility, forgiveness, and service to others.

Our goal is to help every child develop not only academically, but also spiritually and emotionally, growing into individuals who seek to make a positive difference in their families, their communities, and the world around them.
