Senior (Grades 4 & 5)
Olivet school offers an enriched Ontario curriculum in science, history, geography, literature, grammar, math, art, and writing.
At our highest grades, we emphasize the ongoing, solid foundation of knowledge by catering to students on individual levels. Teachers provide detailed discussion and answers to questions as they arise. We accomplished this through interactive learning with our students.
The process involves intertwining “real world” techniques as part of their education, such as the use of technology, adopting intricate conversations, and emphasizing on teamwork.
Children at this age are highly aware and excited to learn about the world around them. Our staff encourages interactive learning in an accessible way that promotes the students’ experience through first-hand perspectives and a better understanding of the concepts we are teaching.
Along with an enriched Ontario curriculum in science, history, geography, literature, grammar, math, art, and writing, we add Christian values that encourage students to remain focused on the application of the knowledge they are gaining. Our staff work on the basis of how our students can make a positive contribution to their communities, their country, and the world.
We challenge our students to move beyond a mere knowledge into understanding where the students are looking for useful applications for what they are learning. For example, we had students work with an electrical engineer to build a working transistor radio as part of their electricity unit.
In addition to frequent excursions and opportunities to test new skills and knowledge, the students work hard on presenting material confidently and articulately. This is one of the many advantages of our small classrooms which allow each student opportunities to present material and practice leadership in the classroom.
I love my school because the classes are very small so you get lots of attention. The teachers are very smart and still have fun with you. Also you go on extremely fun academic trips—about 13 field trips a year!
