French

In French class the students are taught using the AIM method, where each word is taught using a hand gesture, so that the students are speaking, hearing and feeling the language as they learn.

The students learn French through the AIM method by moving rapidly into conversational French

French is introduced from kindergarten onward at Olivet School. Our program uses the acclaimed AIM method, which moves students quickly into real conversational French rather than focusing on verb charts and worksheets.

Students learn meaningful gestures to reinforce new vocabulary and gradually work toward performing a French play for parents at the end of the year. The results are remarkable—most importantly, students enjoy using French. That enjoyment leads to real learning and a genuine desire to speak the language.

Each spring, students present a culminating French performance that highlights everything they’ve learned. They bring familiar stories—such as La Poule Maboule (Chicken Little)—to life entirely in French, demonstrating the vocabulary and expressions they’ve practiced. Through acting, movement, and dance, they gain confidence and have the opportunity to shine both dramatically and physically on stage in front of friends and family.
