Principal’s Welcome

Olivet School Private School in Etobicoke

“I love my school because of its warm and inspiring community with a focus on what matters in life.”

I would like to share a few of the reasons why we use the tag line “Inspire. Learn. Grow.”

Inspire.

A key foundation for our success is inspired teachers. Our teachers bring more than just a wealth of experience and training to their jobs; they bring a deep love and inspiration for reaching, connecting with and developing the young children in their care. Another foundation at Olivet is our commitment for over a hundred years to excel in religiously based education.

We are inspired to weave the call to a life of religion—which is a life of purpose and service to the people around us—with the most up to date academic curriculum in arts, math, science, geography, social studies, history, French, etc. We hope to inspire students to see themselves as more than their physical bodies; to see themselves as being created and cared for by a loving God who has special plans and purposes for each one of us.

Learn.

Learning sits at the center of Olivet. Strong academics, high expectations, creative exploration, careful work on communication, understanding and application. In the process of building a foundation in academic subjects we develop an enjoyment of learning, a confidence in the ability to learn new things and a broad commitment to life-long learning. This culture of learning extends beyond the math and science curriculum in the classroom to include goals of strong character, curiosity about the world and development of the social, emotional, mental, physical and spiritual levels of being.

Grow.

Our concept of growth builds on the broad learning goals we hold. There is an important difference to us between mere knowledge and understanding and actual application. The intelligence and knowledge of a brilliant surgeon who never does surgery has little value. Ultimately we pursue the goal of application in the world. True value emerges as our students begin to apply and connect what they are learning and it is here that they are truly growing as people.

In gardening there is always an element of the miraculous when plants begin to emerge, but there is also the work of cultivating soil to provide for the best growth possible. At Olivet we cultivate an atmosphere of warmth, safety and age-appropriate challenge. This warm community atmosphere of families and school working together creates the conditions which best support growth in the individual students. This allows Olivet students to develop creativity and self-expression, confident but thoughtful social interaction, the feeling of security to explore, and engage wholeheartedly with life.

Come over for a tour and the chance to experience what I love so much about Olivet!
